Description
The forward scattering of neutrinos with other neutrinos in the medium can lead to non-linear evolution of the neutrino flavor. The non-linearity of the equations of motion makes the study of the astrophysical implications very challenging. Most of our insight regarding the topic has been obtained using simplified models which suggest the existence of surprising and rich phenomenology. The non-linearity of the system can lead to spontaneous breaking of spatial symmetry, and although the implications of such an effect are interesting from an astrophysical point of view, more refined studies on the topic are necessary.
