Description
String coherent states provide an efficient and natural setting to study highly excited strings and amplitudes thereof within perturbative string theory. I will discuss the construction of such coherent states (in both bosonic and superstring theory) and give explicit amplitude computations (decay rates and production rates) to exhibit the resulting simplicity compared to corresponding mass eigenstate computations, keeping in mind potential applications ranging from quantum black holes to cosmic superstrings.
