DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Martin Schmaltz (MPP)\n\nIn the Standard Model there
are no particle masses and no interaction thresholds between 13.6 eV and
0.511 MeV\, five orders of magnitude\, bounded by atomic physics below and
nuclear processes above. As the universe expands and cools\, it spends a
long stretch of its history crossing this desert\, an era in which\, in th
e Standard Model\, nothing new happens. Yet the era is far from unobserved
 : the light-element abundances\, the CMB\, and large-scale structure probe
it in detail\, and persistent anomalies\, above all the Hubble tension\,
hint that it may not be a desert after all. I will show how a light dark s
ector that couples to the neutrinos can populate this window and ease the
tensions. The key is timing: heated from the neutrinos only after the ligh
t elements have formed\, the dark sector supplies the extra dark radiation
favored by the Hubble tension while leaving the success of nucleosynthesi
s intact. The same mechanism can produce dark matter and\, through the neu
trino coupling\, predicts signals in neutrino physics\, testable in both c
 osmology and neutrino oscillation experiments.\n\nhttps://indico.mpp.mpg.d
