DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Bjoern Penning (University of Zürich)\n\nThe nature
of dark matter (DM) is one of the most important questions in physics. Th
e LUX-Zeplin (LZ) experiment is the most sensitive dark matter search expe
riment to date\, located 1.6 km underground at the Sanford Underground Res
earch Facility. The experiment utilizes a two-phase time projection chambe
r\, containing seven active tonnes of liquid xenon to search for WIMPs. A
recent search extending the search window up to $270~\\mathrm{keV}$\, has
yielded one event consistent with a nuclear recoil of $240\\pm23(\\text{st
at})\\pm23(\\text{syst})~\\mathrm{keV}$\, which is difficult to explain wi
th any known background\, and which corresponded to a $2.6~\\sigma$ global
significance across the search space. I will describe the LZ data and ana
lysis\, with a particular emphasis on the effort to understand and model t
he high energy nuclear recoil region in light of this result.\n\nhttps://i
