Neutron's working group: Date: 11-04-2013, Tubingen Partecipants: -Bela Majorovits -Peter Grabmayr -Klaus Eitel -Henry Wong -Zhi Zeng -Hao Ma -Haoyang Xing -Jingjun Zhu -Matteo Palermo Contents: -Simulation: -Questions to be addressed: -understand the initial (alpha,n) and muon induced neutron spectra -do we have any chance to parametrize the (alpha,n) neutron spectrum with respect to the rock composition? -what is the influence of the overall experiment on the latter spectrum (compare to empty hall)? -quantify the neutron spectrum that reaches the activ volume of the experiment? -how do we eventually reduce this background component? (shielding etc..) -what to do: -Validate the neutron source spectra, especially regarding muon-induced and alpha-n reaction neutrons -how to do: -first collect all the information available on this topic from both simulations and measurements point of view -further discussions -tasks assignment -for the records: Prof. Zeng said that he's willing to send student(s) to MPI-Munich to work on this project -Measurements: -understand how many people will be ACTUALLY be involved and who -collect ideas on how to build a neutron detector able to measure also the energy of the incoming neutrons -make a proposal out of the latter two statements -establish the best detection principle -simulate the detector geometry -simulate the detector response -establish an analysis procedure -estimate energy resolution (goal ~50%, tbd) -for the records: Dr. Xing is willing to provide some man power to this project
