Description
The GERDA experiment for the search of neutrinoless double beta decay at LNGS in Italy has taken more than 20 kg yr of data with HPGe detectors enriched in the double beta emitting isotope 76Ge with a unprecedented background index. A short introduction - motivating the experiment and explaining the hardware setup - will be given. The most important run parameters and the observed background spectrum will be discussed in some detail. The pulse shape discrimination methods used in the 0vbb analysis will be explained. The data from the energy region of interest will be shown and implications of the results will be discussed.
