Description
Gluon fusion is the dominant production mechanism for a Standard Model Higgs boson at the LHC. Being a loop induced process, providing accurate and precise theoretical predictions is a highly non-trivial task. On the other hand, the vector boson fusion channel provides another interesting production channel, allowing for a measurement of the coupling between the Higgs and the heavy electroweak bosons. Although the cross section of the VBF process can be enhanced by applying appropriate cuts, further suppression of the gluon fusion process would be desirable for a precise determination of the VBF signal. In this talk we discuss how modern machine learning techniques can be used to discriminate the two production mechanisms.
