Description
The new approach of gauge/gravity duality, which originates from string theory, provides new relations between quantum field theory and gravity. In particular, it maps strongly coupled gauge theories - for instance similar to low-energy QCD - to weakly coupled gravity theories. This allows to make new predictions for strongly coupled systems. In the talk, a paedagogical introduction to gauge/gravity duality is given. Moreover, application examples will be discussed. These include spontaneous supersymmetry breaking, transport properties in the quark-gluon plasma,
QCD in a magnetic field and condensed matter applications.
