Based on the biography of Klaus Gottstein, who celebrates his 90th birthday this month, his international activities and contributions to problems at the interface of science and politics are presented and linkedwith the challenges of today. Science has features that are essential for the resolution of international conflicts. Interdisciplinary co-operation, scientific analysis, intellectual exchange and policy recommendation must be used more effectively to contribute to conflict resolution, international security and peace. The modern world of today needs more scientific constructive interference than less.
