Description
Time resolved IR-spectroscopy on the femtosecond timescale allows to obtain insight into short lived intermediates and ultrafast reaction dynamics in chemistry. In this talk we present recent investigations on the formation of the most common UV radiation damage of DNA. We show that the formation of the CPD-photo-damage is ultrafast and occurs within 1 ps. The efficiency of damage formation is controlled by the structural arrangement of the DNA bases at the moment of photon absorption.
