Description
Presented will be three topics. The first one is a) the development of a new type of trigger that reduced the energy threshold of the MAGIC telescope from 55 GeV down to 25 GeV. This is a spectacular development for ground based gamma ray instruments as competing gamma ray installations have energy thresholds a several times higher. The second topic b) is the detection of the Crab pulsar using the new trigger. The new observation has allowed to measure the cutoff energy of the pulsed emission for the first time. The result allows to draw important conclusions on the pulsar emission models for the Crab pulsar. The last topic c) is an outlook to future gamma-ray telescope installations and future gamma ray astronomy.
