Description
The perturbative treatment of multi-scale problems in collider physics is generically plagued by large logarithms in phase space regions with widely separated scales. One approach to treat this problem is resummation, which can be achieved in a natural way via RG equations in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET). In this talk I will present SCET as an effective theory of QCD and highlight its use to address resummation. I will focus on the evaluation of 2-loop dijet soft functions, which are crucial for NNLL resummation in SCET, and present an algorithmic approach suitable for automation and numerical treatment of a wide range of soft functions. This algorithm is based on the program SecDec, both as a means of addressing overlapping singularities and as an interface to the numerical evaluation. Along the way I will present various results for e+e- and hadron collider soft functions.
