The Mu3e Experiment at PSI

The Mu3e aims for a new search of the lepton flavor violating decay: muon^+ -> e^+ e^+ e^- and plans to improve the sensitivity by 3-4 orders of magnitude compared to the current experimental limit of 10^{-12} (90%CL) obtained by the SINDRUM experiment more than 25 years ago. The presentation will focus on the physics motivation and the design of the experiment. Emphasis will be given to the newly developed High Voltage-Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (HV-MAPS) which allow to measure low momentum electrons at high rate with high precision.
