Loop Quantum Gravity: An Introduction

Abstract: Despite enormous efforts over the past 7 decades, a theory of quantum gravity, that is, a theory that succeeds in synthesizing the principles of general relativity with those of quantum field theory, is still not available. The aim of this talk is to motivate the need for quantum gravity, to spell out the source of the difficulties in constructing such a theory and to describe one possible Ansatz.
