Description
Effective field theories (EFTs) provide a systematic method to analyze multi-scale problems and are useful in many contexts. A classic application are processes with heavy virtual particles, but by now EFTs are used to analyze a wide variety of collider observables involving different scale hierarchies. They provide a framework to derive factorization theorems for cross sections and to resum logarithmically enhanced contributions. In my talk, I’ll show some examples and discuss progress and challenges in using EFT methods for precision physics at colliders.
