Description
The observed cosmological baryon asymmetry can be dynamically generated in the early Universe by the out-of-equilibrium decay of right-handed neutrinos, via the leptogenesis mechanism. In combination with the seesaw mechanism this can potentially provide interesting links between neutrino physics and cosmology. However, this link depends on a correct computation of thegenerated asymmetry in terms of the masses and couplings of the underlying neutrino mass model. Since the leading CP-violating source term appears at loop level, it is important to check the validity of the semi-classical Boltzmann description that is typically used. We present a systematic QFT approach, discuss corrections to the Boltzmann equations, and quantify certain medium and gradient corrections to the CP-violating source term.
