Description
In the first part of the seminar, we review the idea of slow-roll inflation with a focus on supersymmetric hybrid inflation. Therein, the end of inflation can be related to spontaneous symmetry breaking in the early Universe. A variant referred to as 'tribrid inflation' proves to be very useful in addressing several problems related to embedding the inflaton into gauge non-singlet representations as well as for implementing a possible symmetry solution to the eta-problem in supergravity. In the second part, an explicit realization based on sneutrino hybrid inflation in SO(10) / Pati-Salam is presented. We show that on this particular trajectory in field space, all problems associated with a gauge non-singlet inflaton field can be resolved. However, the proposed model allows for more general inflaton directions which we will shortly comment on.
