We show new analyses of hadronic final states produced in e+e- annihilation and recorded with the JADE and OPAL experiments. Recent progress in QCD calculations made predictions for 3-jet-like hadronic final states in next-to-next-leading order (NNLO) possible. Combinations of the NNLO predictions with next-to-leading-log (NLLA) calculations are also available. We have measured distributions of event shape observables such as Thrust using data from JADE and OPAL and compared the new QCD predictions corrected for hadronisation effects with these measurements. As the main results we obtain high precision measurements of the strong coupling constant at the centre-of-mass energies of the JADE and OPAL experiments and a sensitive test of the running of the strong coupling predicted by QCD.
