Parton Evolution Beyond Current Paradigms

Monte Carlo event generators are the vital link between theory and the complexity observed at collider experiments. Like analytic resummation, their central parton shower component describes multiple QCD radiation off partons involved in a large-momentum scattering down the small scales describing the inner structure of jets and radiation in between jets.

Current approaches are based on a probabilistic evolution picture which is surprisingly accurate for certain observables. However, the strive for higher precision of the parton evolution necessitates a formulation starting from scattering amplitudes. So-called non-global observables and mixing in colour space set the level of complexity of new evolution algorithms.

In this talk I will provide an introduction to parton showers and parton evolution at the amplitude level, and discuss how corrections beyond leading colour and beyond leading order can be addressed in parton branching algorithms, suited for both analytic approaches as well as a new generation of event generators.
