We live in an age of declining trust and that also should be of concern for science. The discussion about the right strategies against the corona virus has shown that - although people trust scientists in general - they do not understand how to deal with ambivalence and uncertainty. Therefore, like politicians who during the corona crisis have selectively relied on certain researchers, the public has developed a tendency to make individual choices about how to interpret scientific results. But are they to blame? I will argue that neither media nor science has made enough efforts to communicate the principles of research and the amount of uncertainty that comes with science. How do we have to communicate science in order to regain trust?
