This talk will describe dark matter direct detection in experiments employing liquid argon targets, with an emphasis on recent results in searches for dark matter candidates beyond the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) paradigm. I will discuss the development of novel silicon photodetector technology for the next stage of the Global Argon Dark Matter Collaboration’s programme, DarkSide-20k, and prospects for further development of this technology towards the future.
