Description
In the coming years, Experiments at the Large Hadron Collider will give us a first impression of particle physics at the Terascale and might provide first answers to fundamental open questions. However, detailed explorations of New Physics require measurements at a high energy lepton collider, such as precision mass, couplings and cross section measurements both within and beyond the Standard Model, to complement the findings at the LHC. These future experiments also require innovative detector concepts to achieve their ambitious goals. In the area of calorimetry, which is of key importance for the study of hadronic final states, new concepts based on extremely granular detectors have been developed, which, together with sophisticated reconstruction algorithms, promise to achieve a factor of two improvement in jet energy resolution. I will review the physics case and the status of linear colliders, highlight challenges at these future machines and discuss detector and reconstruction technologies, with a focus on jet physics and calorimetry.
