Getting to Zaragoza ...

is not the bread and butter thing it should. The airport is ridiculously small for the city's size. Direct flights are offered to and fro a limited list of cities and those only on selected dates.

The situation is compensated partially by having fast trains to Barcelona and Madrid. Most likely your best option is to fly to Barcelona or Madrid, conmute to the train station and take a fast train to Zaragoza.

Below I list some tips for travelers willing to:

  • Land directly on Zaragoza

  • Land in Barcelona and take a train to Zgz

  • Land in Madrid and take a train to Zgz

Land directly on Zaragoza

Direct flights to Zaragoza come from Palma de Mallorca (Air Europa,Vueling), Milan-Bergamo, Brussels-Charleroi, London–Stansted, Paris-Beauvais (Ryanair), Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca (Wizz Air) but not every day.

Ocassionally one can fly to Zaragoza using the above airports as intermediate stages. Consult the web pages of the flight companies and cross your fingers or use something like http://skyscanner.es

As an example, the search for a trip Munich<->Zaragoza Sunday<->Wednesday  returns a 1-stop possibility

10:30->16:40 (stop in London-Stanstead)

17:35->23:35(stop in Palma de Mallorca)

for 330EUR

Flight to Barcelona and train/bus to Zaragoza

Flying to Barcelona and back is easy and cheap from Munich, Hamburg, Paris, Frankfurt, …

http://skyscanner.es can help you better than us.

Trains from Barcelona to Zaragoza depart from Barcelona-Sants train station to Zaragoza-Delicias train station. The trip takes less than 2 h with a high-speed train, or 5h with the regional stop-on-every-hamlet regional version. Cheap prices can be found if booked in advance.

http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/index.html

The travel from the airport to Barcelona-Sants train station can be done in a number of ways. The standard way is take a regional train from the train station in Terminal2, which takes you directly to Barcelona-Sants.

Regional trains http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/cercanias/barcelona/

Schedules are easy: trains depart at xx:08 and xx:38 minutes past the hour (xx = 6,7,...,23) and do the inverse journey starting at xx:09 and xx:39 (xx= 5,6,...,22). They take ~20 minutes without frequent gross delays.

If you land in T1, you can take a 5min free bus to T2.

A second option is to take aerobus, available from T1 or T2, to Plaza España or Plaza Catalunya. Take the train or underground there to Barcelona-Sants.

If your connection is tight, take a taxi, for~36 EUR, ~20 minutes. Quite convenient if you team up with other MADmaxers.

A cheaper alternative to the train is the bus. Buses from Barcelona-Nord to Zaragoza-Delicias are very frequent and extremely cheap. Get your tickets at www.alsa.com . The same train that takes you from the T2 of the airport to Barcelona-Sants, takes you to Barcelona-Arc de Triomf, which lies side to side to Barcelona-Nord (Main bus station).

Once in Zaragoza-Delicias, you are still not done! Delicias-station is worth a glare with a fish-eye but not so handy for those staying in the center like us. Help is offered even in spanish.

You can take a cab for cheap to your destination (typically 10-15 EUR).

If you are lucky you can take a regional train from Zaragoza-Delicias to Zaragoza-Goya, from which you can nicely walk to the center. Trains take 6 minutes but are scarce. On the other hand, the ticket is free if you came by high-speed train! Check the schedule here!

You can take a bus (quite an experience, since amazingly the frequencies are not so good) Lines 34 and 51 will take you to the center. Recommended to just check google maps, which includes public transportation. You can use this link.

Flight to Madrid and train to Zaragoza

Flying to Madrid and back is easy from many places in Europe, although sometimes not so cheap as to Barcelona. Again http://skyscanner.es can help you better than us.

Trains from Madrid to Zaragoza depart from Madrid-Atocha train station to Zaragoza-Delicias train station. The trip takes less than 2 h with a high-speed train. Cheap prices can be found if booked in advance.

http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/index.html

The travel from the airport to Madrid-Atocha can be done in a number of ways. Check them here!

An interesting alternative is to take a bus directly from Madrid-airport (Terminal 4) to Zaragoza-Delicias. It takes 4 hours, is cheap, you save the conmutting through Madrid and tickets can be found here http://www.alsa.com/

Once on Zaragoza-Delicias, your trip is almost done. Check out our tips to reach the center given in the previous option.
